Zone 16

To develop your reading skills, you will:

Reading

·         read and re-read a simple text to develop reading fluency.

Comprehension

·         answer questions to develop your comprehension skills.

Phonics

·         learn to identify the matching short vowel sounds and your corresponding letters in simple words.

·         learn to identify the position of the short vowel sounds in simple words

·         learn to blend the short vowel sound ‘e’ and consonants together to read simple words

·         read a simple text with short ‘e’ words using the ‘sounding out’ reading strategy.

Sight words

·         learn and practise identifying automatically by sight the following words that are used in high frequency in texts: time, I'm, if, help, Mrs, called, here, off

To develop your writing skills, you will:

Spelling

·         practise identifying the correct letters on the keyboard to match the missing sounds in simple words

·         learn to spell simple words that end in ‘at’: sat, mat, rat, fat, hat

Grammar & Punctuation

·         learn to use capital letters for the first word in a sentence.
