Assignments and Exercise Bundles (Matrix)

This article covers using the Matrix to assign exercises to students.  This method does not allow you to distinguish the availability of the exercise on tablet devices. The quick assign tool offers this function.

There are a few different ways of assigning tasks/exercises to your students with LiteracyPlanet.  There are three options when assigning tasks/exercises.  You are able to assign a task to:

  • individuals, a group, or entire class, using the Quick Assign tab or via the Matrix tab
  • exercise bundles, which are titled and can then be assigned later

Matrix Assigned Exercises

  1. Select the Year Level of the exercise you would like to assign (eg. Preschool)
  2. Select the Skills (eg. Learning the Alphabet > Letters (a, e, i, o, u) > Upper and Lower Case Letters)
  3. Hover your mouse over the Exercise Set you wish to assign (eg. Tutorial (a, b, c, d))
  4. Assign the exercise to the students by either:
    • Selecting the tick box in the top corner of the skill cell in order to assign the exercise to all students (#7 above)
    • Selecting individual students by hovering the mouse over the student cell and ticking the box in the top left of the cell (shown to the right)

The cells will now be highlighted to reflect the assignment.
These exercises are considered Matrix Assigned, since no template was created.

Exercise Bundles

An Exercise Bundle allows you to name, schedule and share a group of exercises. These exercises are collected from the matrix into a Exercise Bundle to be assigned later. This option is especially useful as part of the planning stage – various templates can be created at the beginning of term, and assigned/scheduled as necessary.

  1. Select the Year Level of the exercise you would like to assign (eg. Preschool)
  2. Select the Skills (eg. Learning the Alphabet > Letters (a, e, i, o u) > Upper and Lower Case Letters)
  3. Hover your mouse over the Exercise Set you wish to assign (eg. Tutorial (a, b, c, d))
  4. Assign the exercise to an Exercise Bundle by selecting the + sign
  5. Choose whether to:
    • Create a new Exercise Bundle, and enter a meaningful name;
    • Select a Exercise Bundle, and select an existing bundle name
  6. Select Save

You can assign the bundle from within the assignments page.
